Seymour A&P Society Show – 5 Oct 2013

A beautiful sunny day and such a contrast to the Horsham shows. The hound group was judged by Mrs A M Hearn. The babies were not gaiting as well as they can - but when do babies ever gait nicely at the right time! Even so Tambuzi The Isle Of Avalon (Arthur) won first place out of 4 baby puppy dogs. Tambuzi Secret Of Roan Inish (Willow) won first place out of 3 baby puppy bitches and then went on to Best Baby Puppy in Group. Not to be out done the adults Tambuzi The Sherpaof Annapurna (Tobi), owned by Colleen, took out the dog challenge and Ch Tambuzi The Rinpocheof Qinghai (Ruby), owned by Lisa-Jane,  took out the bitch challenge and went on to Best of Breed. Congratulations to all!

Royal Melbourne Show

We were pleased to assist the Victorian Basenji Breed Association Incwith their magnificent 'Congo themed' stand at the Rare Breeds Showcase. Farmer Dave, the MC, seemed interested in our breed and we enjoyed quite a lengthy interview in the arena. Tambuzi was well represented with my dogs attending over the 3 days.  Ringo, Willow, Raven, Arthur and their sister Khloe (owned by Junie) and Tobi (owned by Colleen) attended. The dogs loved every minute of it; the adults, the kids and even some babies visited the stand to pat the dogs. It was fantastic socialisation for the puppies. I don't think Ringo has ever received so many pats and attention. When the show opened it got very busy. At one stage Ringo looked like he was in a coma so he went for a siesta - he was totally worn out but it all. The dogs really looked the part in their branded bandanas provided by the Club.

Horsham Agricultural Society – 2 Oct 2013

The day at Horsham was a baptism of fire for Team Tambuzi babies; Raven, Willow and Arthur. A cold day that saw some sunny spells interspersed with what felt like hurricane force winds which almost knocked dogs off the tables! To diving rain. Tambuzi Secret of Roan Inish (Willow) took Best Baby Puppy in Group at the afternoon show under Mr W Mooney. We waited patiently avoiding the rain storms and assisting in holding down gazebos in the wind. Just as we entered the ring for Best Baby Puppy in Show there was a major rain storm. Judging was stopped. The temperature dropped several degrees and poor Willow not only resembled a brindle as the rains streaked through her coat but was absolutely freezing.

Basenji puppies go to their new homes

The first of the puppies went to their new homes yesterday. After attending the Victorian Basenji Breed Association event at Lilydale lake Emily and Junie took little Newman and Khloe to their new respective homes. They had a very big day with the adults and did very well considering they had not had any lead training. Hopefully the excitement of the day meant that they had a good nights sleep and didn't keep their new families awake!

Basenji Puppies

Eye Exams

A trip to Melbourne to Dr Robin Stanley today. A nice long trip - the pups slept almost all the way. The screening was conducted through the Australian Canine Eye Scheme (ACES) One pup with normal eyes the others have slight PPM's which Dr Stanley thought would absorb in the next few weeks. All pups with PPMs signed off as being clinically insignificant and will not cause any vision issues.

First Vaccinations

The puppies had their first vet visit today. Their first vaccination and microchips inserted. DNA swabs were also taken by Dr Sue for parentage verification. The pups took the whole experience in their stride and were paraded around the back surgery for the nurses to see.

Baby Sitters

Sierra's puppies are living in the lap of luxury. Not one but 3 'mothers'. Sierra is extremely laid back with her fur-kids and it doesn't worry her in the slightest if the other dogs come in for a look. In fact I now have nightly 'fights' as to whom will sleep with them. I've given up trying to explain that they are Sierra's puppies. Halle (grand mother) has particularly taken them in as hers. Halle has even produced milk and is assisting in feeding and her cleaning is, as always, incredible. Meja (great grand mother) also like to nurture, no milk form her - she is a little long in the tooth for that.

Eyes Opening

The next phase in development is slowly starting. The pups eyes are beginning to open. This leads to further their interaction with one another and their personalities begin to form. Sierra is as patient as ever, lying quietly as a whirling dervish of puppies squirm and prod as they feed.

One Week Old

The puppies are one week old today. They had their dew claws removed last Thursday. Basenji's are generally fantastic parents are Sierra is going with the 'norm' plus. She has no issues with the other dogs coming in to look at her kids. In fact Halle, Sierra'a dam, has rather taken to the pups and whilst Mum feeds them Halle cleans them - Team Tambuzi!

2013 Litter Arrives

I am pleased to announce that Sierra's litter was born on Monday 24th June 2013 - on time. Sierra is proving to be a wonderful Mum to her 7 babies; 3 tri-colour dogs, 2 red & white dogs and 2 red & white bitches.
